What are your favorite podcasts, bookish and non-bookish?
Oh dear. I'm afraid I have a very boring answer for this question: none. I don't usually listen to podcasts. I wish I did as I constantly come across dozens that sound fascinating, but I'm far too busy to spare the time and I currently don't spend enough time in the car or in other places that lend themselves to audio entertainment, so I rarely if ever indulge in such thing. Wish I had a more entertaining answer this week. :D

Going Forward, Creative Blogging, Nominations
It's been weeks since I posted regularly on my blog, which is all kinds of weird for me. I love blogging and have been religious about it for years. But life has gotten in the way a lot lately. I'm hoping now to return to a more regular schedule. So, a couple of things.
1) I've been nominated as a creative blogger (see below).
2) What I post on this blog may change a bit. In the past I've done a lot of weekday memes and blog hops and things. I won't be forsaking those all together, but I'll be doing fewer of them. The reason being is that I want to focus more on my own writing, rather than reading and blog hopping.
3) For that same reason, I'll probably post less than I used to: only 2-3 times/week, rather than 5+.
4) Other than that, I'll still be around a lot. Not going anywhere anytime soon. :D
5) I'm also still working on a whole new marketing plan for my books, and I'll share it and it's results as I go along, so I'm super excited to see how it works.

Facts about me:
1. I am a hybrid author (both traditional and indie) who writes across many genres, including scifi/fantasy, historical fiction, dystopian, and crime fiction.
2. I am unmarried, but live with my sister and four-year-old niece in Northern Utah.
3. I come from a huge, tight-knit family. There are twelve of us kids, all from the same two parents. (Everyone take a deep breath! No passing out while reading my blog!)
4. I run a daycare during the week to pay the bills. I find that I have a LOT less motivation to write when I have to work a 9-5 job. Staying at home with a bunch of rugrats gives me (some) time to write during the day, but more importantly it doesn't kill my motivation to write during my spare time.
5. I am a The Walking Dead fanatic. Anyone who follows my blog for long already knows this. When the show is on (Oct-Nov, Feb-Mar) I do very in-depth analyses of each episode on my blog. I even have a fan account on Instagram and Tumblr. I've actually learned some marketing lessons from these accounts, which I'll be turning into blog posts soon. Stay tuned! :D

LUW Annual Conference (Awesome!)
Anyway, I didn't enter anything into the regular contest this year. I usually do, but the deadline was back in June and it just snuck up on me this year. I didn't have anything to submit, or any time to prepare anything by the time I realized the deadline was looming. Instead, I just entered my two published novels. Dark Remnants didn't win anything, but Citadels of Fire won the Silver Quill (second place, with the Gold Quill being first) in the adult category.

I was so honored and happy to have won something. It was a great conference, and I had tons of fun networking with new authors and reconnecting with some I hadn't seen in a while. CoF winning was just icing on the cake.
Emily Yonkers (this year's president) even said they were working on putting the winning books on the League's website to sell, which I was very pleased about. :D
And, as I put on Facebook last night, us JFP authors really cleaned up! Jolly Fish Press is my publisher for Citadels of Fire, and all the JFP authors have a really good camaraderie going. No less than four of us won published book awards last night. (I think at least one of the two top quills in each category went to a JFP author!) So yes, we totally kicked butt!

Plus, the wonderful Johnny Worthen (another JFP author who's having a positively breakout year) was the keynote speaker, won one of the quills for his YA novel, and won writer of the year. I love Johnny. He's so full of positive energy that you can't help but smile when you hang out with him. His keynote speech brought down the house. Most of us were falling out of our chairs laughing. He was just that entertaining.

Overall, I really enjoyed the conference. It was so much fun! I even sold a handful of books. (Yea!) I feel rejuvenated and inspired to plow through my editing (there are two different books I'm working on) as well as keep writing my current WIP (book 3 of Interchron).
I also want to get more involved in the League again. As with my writing, I've really slacked off the past few months. Since I moved into my new place (5 mos ago, now. Where does the time go?) I haven't visited the Clearfield chapter. I mean to do that now. Even though they're just monthly meetings, I think they keep me on task with my writing.

St. George Book Festival and Other Announcements
I hope you're all gearing up for a productive and prosperous week. For today, I'm just doing some announcements. The fall, as always, will be a busy one for me, as I'll be attending plenty of conferences and bookish events.
August 30 I have an author signing at the Hastings in Harrisville, Utah. It's a modest little place, but the Hastings company is always willing to support local authors, so I do my best to help them out in return.
September 12-13 is the League of Utah Writers' annual conference. As of right now, I'm not presenting that I know of. Just going to socialize, network, and learn lots of new things. It's being held in Layton, Utah this year, which is like ten minutes from my house. (Yea!)
October 4 is an author signing event also hosted by Hastings, but it will be a whole slew of local authors coming together for the same event. More details to come as it gets closer.
October 24-25 is the 2014 St. George Book Festival. I'll be attending as a Keynote/Guest Author and running one of the workshops on the 24th. Very excited for this one as I've never attended before.
So, if you're anywhere in or around Utah and can possibly make it to any of the events, I'd love to meet you! Of course I'll post reminders as the fall draws near. Have a great week, Everyone! Get out there and take steps toward your own success!

Citadels of Fire Launch is Almost Here!!!
More than five years after finishing my first full-length novel, dozens of query letters and lots and lots and LOTS of revisions later, it's finally going to be published, courtesy of Jolly Fish Press!

The launch party will be at the Layton, Utah Barnes and Noble at 1:00 pm on May 31st. I know most people who read my blog don't live in Utah, but if you're in the area, consider yourself invited. The launch party will be a blast and I'd love to see you!
I haven't decided whether I'm doing a virtual launch party or not yet, but I'll keep you posted. Of course I can use all the help I can get spreading the word once it's out, so stay tuned! If anyone's willing to give me an honest review, I'd be happy to give you a free ecopy of the book. If anyone's interested, let me know!

It's Monday: What does YOUR week look like + NaNo Updates!
Good Monday Morning, All! I hope everyone had a safe, wonderful weekend. I was quite busy, though happily, I managed to accomplish plenty of work and also play a little. My sister and I did some early Christmas shopping and tons of holiday planning, but we also saw not one, but two films Yea! I don't think I've been to the movies since the summer. The last thing I remember seeing in the theaters was The Great Gatsby, and that was quite some time ago!
Anyway, this post is just to say good morning, wish everyone a great week, and also say that my posts for the rest of the month will probably more sparse than usual. I don't think I mentioned it at all last week, but I"m participating in NaNoWriMo. I had a fairly normal posting schedule last week, but that's only because I wrote up most of last week's posts days before NaNo started. Now, I'm in the thick of it, already behind on my word count, and the holidays are coming at us faster than I can believe.
So...if I'm a bit absent over the next few weeks--less commenting, less interaction, and the like--that's why. I may do simple, paragraph-long posts each day to give updates on NaNo and other small things, but that's all. For right now, I have 7,405 words written. A bit behind, as you can see (I should have roughly double that by now) but I hope to get caught up this week. Wish me luck! So, everyone have a great week, good luck to everyone participating in NaNo, and wish me luck as well!

Mondays are Crazy (but Fun!)
Happy Monday, wonderful readers! So just got a few quick things today:
1) This week I'm super busy trying to finish up review copies of Quantum Entanglement and get them out, as well as keep prior commitments I'm behind on. I've had some life issues lately--relatives have suddenly needed help moving, I've gotten very sick, my sister got married a few weeks ago (still recovering over here) and this past weekend I spent two days selling books as a massive, well-attended vendor fair.
All these things are actually very good, but they've all combined to put me very behind schedule. I have some guest posts scheduled for the Dark Remnants blog tour, so make sure and drop by for the links, not forgetting to enter the Giveaway. Other than that, I may be somewhat absent on the blog this week. By the end of the week, everything should be back to normal, though.
So, please bear with me and I'd really appreciate your support by dropping by my guest posts and tour stops.
2) By the way, the vendor fair I went to was called Peach Days. It's an annual tradition in Brigham City, Utah, which is about twenty miles north of where I live. Something like 50,000 people visit Peach Days every year and I sold somewhere between 50 and 60 books in two days. A new record! So exciting! Yea!

Happy Monday, Everyone!
Just a few quick announcements today. As most of you know, I'm putting out several books during the latter half of the year. I have two books--one full length novel and one shorter novel--coming out in September. One is a crime drama novel entitled Dark Remnants. The other is book 2 in my dystopian sci-fi series, Interchron.
I'll be doing a double cover reveal the end of this month, so if anyone is interested in helping me spread the word with cover reveal, or would like to be involved in the book tours, email me at lkhillbooks@gmail.com. I'll be setting up tours and sending out review copies over the next couple of weeks.

Recently my favorite books have been The Song of Fire and Ice series, and I've made no secret of the fact that Arya is my favorite character. I love her because she's independent and really intelligent. She can out-smart just about everyone, even adults (she's only twelve) and people that are technically much smarter than her. I don't want to give too many spoilers, but let's just say the one thing she totally isn't getting is the feelings a certain armorer's apprentice might have for her. Sometimes I just want to smack her over the head so she gets it. If I suddenly found myself in that world--well, first I'd find myself a short sword and a decent horse. Then I'd go find Arya, give her a swift kick in the pants, and make sure she understood the whole Gendry situation. ;D
After that, I'd probably high-tail it to the Wall and see if Jon Snow would be interested in a make-out session. ;D

Best Dystopian Novels + Announcements

- Persistence of Vision Blog Tour!!! The blog tour will kick off on January 13! (Check out my tour page above for details.) There's a badge and code in the sidebar for anyone who wants to grab it. A couple of things about the tour:
a) I've had such a great response to my requests, that it's going to be a long tour. It will probably go close to eight weeks and even then I'm doubling up on a lot of dates. In short, two months from now everyone's going to be sick to death of hearing about my book. Isn't that great?Thank you SO MUCH to all my blogger buddies who've shown so much support and enthusiasm for my book! I can't thank you enough!
b) During the tour, as I've said before, I will probably only do announcements and a few memes on my blog. That's because I want you to check out the tour stops, and since I'll be writing most of the content for the stops, anything I do on my own blog will be double work (triple for days with two stops. :D)

So, as I've mentioned in my Resolution posts, I want to read more Dystopian novels. I write Dystopia, but I feel like I haven't read a lot of the important ones for someone who writes it. So, today I'm going to try and get a list of the greatest Dystopias. I haven't listed all the ones on my Goodreads Dystopian shelf, but this is a list of the ones I really want to read this year, and I'd love it if you guys would give me suggestions. I'd like to get a good list going so I have all the really important, awesome dystopian stories on my shelf.
Note: I have read the Hunger Games trilogy, so that will not be on the list. Just sayin.'

Good Morning and Happy New Year! Looks like we all survived 2012! Yea!
Announcements:
- My blog tour for Persistence of Vision will begin on January 14th and run through February. More on this next week but during the tour, I'll probably just be running general memes on my blog and putting links to the tour stops for each day, so watch for that.
- The Persistence of Vision book trailer is now in production! Yea! I hope to be able to post it by the end of the month.
- I'll be signing/selling books at the A Passionate Affair Valentine Boutique Gift Show in Kearns, Utah on February 9, 2013.
- I will be doing a signing at Hastings in Ogden on February 22, 2013.

Jon turned to Alys Karstark. "My lady. Are you ready?"

"You're not scared?"
The girl smiled in a way that reminded Jon so much of his little sister that it almost broke his heart. "Let him be scared of me." The snowflakes were melting on her cheeks, but her hair was wrapped in a swirl of lace that Satin had found somewhere, and the snow had begun to collect there, giving her a frosty crown. Her cheeks were flushed and red, and her eyes sparkled.
"Winter's lady." Jon squeezed her hand.
I've been reading this book forever! It's quite a tome at 959 pages, but I'm 2/3 of the way through and determined to finish it this week! Wish me luck! :D
