Follow Friday--Hype and Disappointment

Gain new followers and make new friends with the Book Blogger Feature & Follow! If this is your first time here, welcome! You are about to make some new friends and gain new followers -- but you have to know -- the point of this hop is to follow other bloggers also. I follow you, you follow me.

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee's View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it'll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, (using the linky tools -- keep scrolling!) then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them "hi" in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

Q: What hyped up book do you think was not worth all the talk?

Fifty Shades of Grey. Hands down. I'll admit that I haven't read ALL of this book, but I've read enough of it to know that I belong to the camp of believing this is absolute smut. Don't get me wrong: I totally know how people can get addicted to it, but that doesn't change facts.

Sex sells in our society. It's a simple fact. The mark of a good author is one who can hook people and bring them back again and again without the sex. Then you know your characters, story, conflicts, etc. are all good, which makes you an awesome writer. Let's face it, everyone pays attention when the clothes come off, but that doesn't mean a book is worth reading.

How about you? Did you like Fifty Shades of Grey?

  2. I think this is going to be a popular choice. I have not braved the 50 Shade's world myself. Not sure I will, the hype makes me nervous.

  3. Thanks for stopping by my blog! I haven't read 50 Shades, but the way I figure it, there's plenty of erotica for -free- online, so why bother with this? ;) New follower.

  5. I couldn't agree with you more on your comment about reeling readers in without the sex! As a writer I know all this, but as a reader, even if a book is mediocre, as soon as clothes come off, I start squealing like a tween at a One Direction concert!
I'm an addict for a good book-smooching session.I think that's why I love YA so much, if anything, a YA love scene is much harder to write because you have certain boundaries you can't cross.
If you can get grown women swooning at a YA kissing scene, where it's nothing more than kissing, you're a talented in my eyes! ;) I haven't read 50 shades yet, can't decide if I want to!

  7. I'm just about to start on that series! I guess it's okay to have sex in the book but to only be the focus of the book without anything else (a plot specifically haha)would make the book not read-worthy to me!

  10. I agree 100% I was to embarrassed to say it on my blog, I gave a 1 star, would have done 0 if I could have, I only reviewed it at GR not my blog, its disgusting, and that tampon scene just did me in who does that??? And now its burned into my brain, I can't Unread it, and sure wish I could. Its so poorly written too, and "Inner Goddess" are you kidding me?? lol, so many repetitive words, just sucks. I warn anyone who hasn't read it, think hard, as some scenes will never leave your head.
Here is my post, i actually changed it from 50 shades of grey, as i was embarrassed that I even gave in and read it.

    1. Yeah, the tampon scene was one of my major issues as well--not sexy, definitely not sweet, just disgusting. As I said in my post, I didn't even read the whole book. Just a few excerpts (including that one) and it pretty much cemented my views. Thanks for stopping by Michelle. :D

  12. 50 Shades, woah, everyone is going with 50 shades. Haha, feeling very left outta the loop here but I personally never felt the pull of 50 shades, I mean, yeah for a while I was intrigued but after a few pages the writing style just didn't really have me going for long.

  15. I'm boycotting 50 shades, for the sole reason that I've been reading romance, erotic romance and erotica for many years - and there is just so much better stuff out there...but at the same time, if 50 shades opens people up to trying new stuff, I will happily provide recommendations.

I have no interest in this book either, I heard terrible reviews on it... and if I'm going to read crappy BDSM, I might as well just pick the Anita Blake series back up.

  24. I'm actually one of those folks that liked the series. I'm not ashamed to say that the hype sucked me in and the thought of all that sex and a little playtime in the red room of pain. I know it's not a well written book but it kept me entertained and at the end of the days that's what I look for in a book. Entertainment value. Also, I'm a sucker for smutty reads :D Thanks for stopping by my FF

  25. I haven't read 50 Shades, but I've heard more than enough about it from my wife to stay far away. She's persevered to the third book, but only because she's curious how it all ends. She's actually quite bored with it. LOL

  26. I've read the whole series and was entertained by the first two books. They are smutty, but sometimes I like that in a book. I've read better books and worst books over the years so I'm pretty useless in the 50 Shades debate. The third book was an absolute waste of time and money.
