Teaser Tuesday: Dance of the Red Death

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week's teaser is from Dance of the Red Death by Bethany Griffin! I read book 1 a year ago, right around Halloween, and decided to read book 2 this year as part of Readers Imbibing Peril.
"I was afraid of the burning, the flooding. But no matter what he does, Malcontent is the only person without the disease that looks at me like he doesn't care."     As if to prove his point, the sore across his cheek begins to ooze, and I have to force myself  not to look away.     "So there's nothing to be done?" I ask. "People like her would come to your settlement, and they would always die?"     "Not always," he says softly. "The reverend chose to save some. He might save her. His daughter."
What are you reading this week?
