Three Things to Consider This Labor Day! Plus RMQ!
Good Monday, everyone! Happy Labor Day! I'm sure everyone's bright-eyed and bushy-tailed today! :D
The first two things are just announcements. The third has to do with deeper thoughts! Consider this:
1) My cover.
Giselle of Xpresso Reads featured my book's cover on her FB page on Sunday. If you could take a minute to click the link and "like" her post, I'd really appreciate it! :D Going along with that, I'm currently setting up other cover reveals so you'll see my book's cover around a bit more. Keep an eye out for it!
2) Dragons
My second announcement is probably more exciting for me than for you, but I finally started writing my high fantasy project. (Yea!) On Sunday morning I wrote the first chapter. It was exciting to finally begin writing it, especially as it was the first time I've written something new and original in about a month. I've been busy editing and moving to a new apartment, so my treasured writing time has kind of disappeared. It's so great to get back on track. And remember, this new story features dragons! :D
3) Memories
Okay, so let's briefly talk about memories. How important are memories in our lives? I think we can all agree: VERY!
Our memories define who we are...to ourselves. Other people define us by what their five senses tell them and by what they know of us, but without memories, how are we to know ourselves?
But what if you lost a year of your memories? What if you found out that during that year you made friends, went on important missions, and fell in love...and now you remembered none of it? What if you could never reclaim those memories? What if the reason for the memory loss...was your fault?

Happy Labor Day everyone! :D
So the RMQ from Friday was:
"Did you see that? She stole that tie! It's a perfect crime. Girls don't wear ties!"
"Yes, if she murdered the tie it would be a perfect crime."
No one guessed this one. It's from an old movie starring Dudley Moore called Arthur. They recently did a (somewhat hokey, but still entertaining) remake with Russell Brand. The first line was said by Dudley Moore, as Arthur, a rich, lovable playboy millionaire. The second was said by the wonderful John Gilgud, as Hobson, his butler. :D
My parents quoted this line ALL THE TIME when I was a kid. I could quote the line long before I ever saw the movie!
Now for today's RMQ: (slightly easier)

Dragons and Fantasy
I know my fantasy world will have dragons. In fact, I started thinking about this story based on two things: 1) my love for the Game of Thrones story, 2) a short story I wrote for a contest. I wrote the story about a little boy and a dragon. I did it to challenge myself because I'm actually HORRIBLE at writing short stories. (Entirely too long-winded). The League of Utah Writers was having their annual contest and I decided to challenge myself to write a short story for the contest.
Of course I love fantasy and I've been wanting to explore dragons for some time. So, I put the three together and wrote a short story about a boy and a dragon. I entered it into the contest, but I won't know how it did until mid-September. (I'll let you know! :D)
Anyway, I gave it to my writing group and they really liked it. They said it was interesting and asked if I was planning on turning it into a full novel. I won't lie and say it hadn't crossed my mind, but their encouragement helped me build excitement and I've been planning scenes ever since then.
Anyway, I think I'm still weeks, if not months away from beginning the writing, but I thought I'd get some input. I won't tell you all the awesome secrets of my world-building, but here's a few:
1) (As previously stated) There are dragons. I haven't worked out all the details yet, or how exactly the dragon magic will work, but I know they have a very loyal, symbiotic relationship with the humans. Only certain humans are born with the magic to become dragon riders, etc.
2) There will be other creatures, such as unicorns. (Eyebrows up and down in rapid succession).
3) There are no mountain ranges in this world. I have a specific reason for this--a plot device I'll work in--but it comes from the fact that I live quite high in the Rockies. To live in a world without mountains would be all KINDS of bizarre to me. Hence...
4) There will be all kinds of lore, lost legends coming back to life, kings, queens, knights, adventure, and romance. (Of course! It's high fantasy!)
Although I know I have a lot of work ahead of me, I can't wait to get started!

Book Progress! Yea!
And yes, this is a picture of a banana by Andy Warhol. I put the phrase 'cover art' into google's image search, hoping to find some image for all you visual learners, but all I got was a MILLION different covers for albums and books. I went for the most random one, just to pique everyone's interest. Your welcome! :D
Anyway, wish me luck! I'll be sure to post a picture of the cover when I have it.
Any tips for me?
