Follow Friday: TV vs. Film

Gain new followers and make new friends with the Book Blogger Feature & Follow! If this is your first time here, welcome! You are about to make some new friends and gain new followers -- but you have to know -- the point of this hop is to follow other bloggers also. I follow you, you follow me.

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee's View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it'll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, (using the linky tools -- keep scrolling!) then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them "hi" in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

What book/series do you think would make a better TV show than a movie?

Source
The main problem with making things into movies is that so much gets cut, right? And that's just par and parcel of sending a detailed book to the big screen. So, pretty much any epic fantasy would make a much better TV show than film. I mean, Peter Jackson did a wonderful job with Lord of the Rings, but that was only a trilogy. And with three, three-hour films, there was still tons of material that got cut. Can you imagine trying to fit an entire 1000-page Wheel of Time book into a 120-minute film. It would be a catastrophe!

So, Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, along with most other epic fantasy series, would make a much better TV show than it would a film. :D

    1. They're super-great! Probably my all-time favorite series, which is why I'd want them to have tons of screen time. :D Thanks Britt!

  4. I bet I would like this series waaaay more as a series than I would as books. I've been avoiding the books for years actually. It might be a good gateway...

I'm coming from the blog hop, but your comments tool won't let me comment with my book blog url...I'm www.bookpunks.com. Cheers.

    1. Yeah, the books are quite a commitment. I love 'em but it'd be cool to see them played out on the big screen. Sorry my comments tool was being stupid about your URL. I'll stop by, though. Have a great weekend, Click Clack. :D

  5. Yeah those series that are really long would work better as TV shows I think. Because then you could have 20 episodes or so of 1 hour footage. Makes it easier to watch too. Sometimes sitting for 3 hours straight for a movie can be tiring!

  6. I think Preston and Child's Pendergast books would make a great series.

    1. I agree! I haven't read the books, but from what I understand, Pendergast is a character that would lend himself well as a lead in a series. Thanks Alex! :D

  7. This is amazing! Ohmygod if they made this a TV series I would be jumping up and down! I've been trying to read this series for years. I'm stuck at book six this time... Old follower, so I added you on Goodreads!

    Here's my F&F!

    1. Yeah I approved on GR. Thanks for adding me there. I totally love this series and would love to see it on the screen. Book 6 is a great one (the end is awesome!) I know the series bogs down a bit after that, but push through if you can. The final book is so amazing I can't even tell you. SO worth the long read. :D THanks for stopping by. Have a great weekend! :D

  8. Good choice! I think any long series would be better as a tv show just because there's so much that's important to the story!

    1. I agree! They're doing an excellent job with Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire) on HBO, and I think it sets the bar higher for future series being adapted. Thanks Erica! :D

  10. Any book series would make an awesome TV show! I thought Harry Potter would make a better TV series; the movies were great but they had to cut out so much of what I loved about the Harry Potter world.

    1. Very true. The cutting is always what hurts. I think that's why they so often cut a single book into two films. Otherwise, all the fans would have a fit. Thanks Lisa! :D

  11. Yeah, pretty much anything in the Epic Fantasy category. The problem with Epic Fantasy as a TV series, unfortunately, is that it would need to be something that could sustain a big budget, because without a big budget, most fantasy tv just comes off as cheesy, low-budget-feeling, or cornball.

The BBC can get away with it, to some extent. I think the only good fantasy tv show I've ever seen is Merlin... and I think the secret there was mostly the humorous dialogue that helped the audience feel like, although the story could be quite serious, the show itself was willing to not take itself too seriously.

    1. Yeah, I agree. HBO is doing a great job with Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and FIre) but not every network has HBO's budget. And even saying that, there have been some epic battle scenes that were a bit lackluster, and you can totally tell it's a budget thing. It's really too bad. But, we take what we can get, right Jenelle? Have a great weekend! :D

  12. Good point, I wouldn't have liked to be in charge of doing the screenplay for Lord of the Rings. Talk about a headache. My FF

    1. Right? I wouldn't mind taking a stab at WoT, but only if I knew I had tons of time and money at my disposal. Otherwise, yeah, major headache. Thanks for stopping by! :D

  13. I think you're right about things being cut. I haven't heard of this series so going to look it up.

  18. I've heard about this series before but it's not really current type of book. A little to much epic fantasy burnout at my house. However I have the first one on my kindle with hopes of reading one day. Maybe I should give it a shot. Thanks so much for joining and sharing this week. New follower My FF
