Follow Friday: Reading Habits

***I realized today that this post is my 500th post on this blog! Wow! I can't believe I've been blogging long enough for that! Look for a celebratory giveaway next week!***

Gain new followers and make new friends with the Book Blogger Feature & Follow! If this is your first time here, welcome! You are about to make some new friends and gain new followers -- but you have to know -- the point of this hop is to follow other bloggers also. I follow you, you follow me.

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee's View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it'll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, (using the linky tools -- keep scrolling!) then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them "hi" in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

How have your reading habits changed in the past few years? Did you get interested in a new genre? Do you read more? Less? Why do you think your habits changed, if they did?

The major way my reading has changed in the past few years has to do with my work and writing habits. I've always been a voracious reader, but during college, I got out of the habit of pleasure reading because I always had so many textbooks to slog through.

Not until my first book got picked up for publishing and I started blogging did I start reading regularly again. Of course, even then it was only as I could manage. Then, for most of last year, I wasn't working a day job. It was glorious! I got SO much reading done.

Now, just due to life, I'm working again, so my reading time has gone down once again. I'm still reading more than I was before, but less than I was before I started working.

And now that I'm helping to raise my 3-year-old niece, I often read to her in the evening, which I totally LOVE doing!

I'll always be big on reading, I imagine. How much of my life I can read away just depends on how much the rest of life gets in the way. :D

How have your reading habits changed lately?

  1. Old follower here! :) I think the self-induced pressure of trying to help out so many authors and read their books, especially out of my preferred genres, and review them is detracting from the pleasure of reading for me lately. I just celebrated one year of book blogging in January and I'm kinda feeling blah about it lately. Plus new life changes, etc. are incoming so I think I'm gonna take a mini break from the blog tour circuit and read & review for pleasure from my massive TBR which also includes "owed" books to netgalley, authors, etc. :)

    1. Definitely a good idea, Tiffany. I learned early on that reviewing for new authors and blog tours wasn't really for me. If I can't read what I want to when I want to, I get burnt out and resentful pretty fast. Definitely take a break and refresh yourself. Have a great weekend! :D

  2. I am much more of an avid reader than I used to be. Book blogging really opened me up to different genres.

  4. Nice! I've always loved reading myself. I was the only one in school who ever wanted MORE than 15 min of sustained silent reading!

  6. One of my non-negotiables is reading in bed for an hour before I go to sleep. It's the best way to wind down and a great way to get that feeling that only reading for pleasure gives you. Old follower.

    1. I'd agree with that! Sometimes I have other things I have to do before bed, but I love the nights I get to read much more. :D Have a great weekend! :D

  11. WOW! 500 posts? That's awesome, Liesel!

Isn't it awesome to read for a child? I love reading for my children, even if they can also read on their own. Sitting down together and sharing a story is a special moment in our days :)

Thanks for stopping by earlier. Have a wonderful weekend.
