| Aviendha as a Maiden Source |
1. Aviendha’s visions finally show us the decision that will place the Aiel upon their path to destruction. That first step seems so logical, so will she be able to persuade the Wise Ones to avoid it when only she has seen this future? Can you see any way that Randland can avoid being overwhelmed by the Seanchan, even if the Aiel try to preserve the Dragon’s Peace?
As I said last week, it seems obvious that Aviendha will play a pivotal role in this issue, which is why she is having these visions. I think it's an especially interesting situation for her, given how long it took her to pass her final test, standing up to the Wise Ones because they were treating her unfairly. Obviously all Aviendha's learning and training have been pointing her toward this fate.
That said, the thing that sticks out most in the visions concerning the Aiel is that Rand abandoned them/rendered them useless, etc. If she can get Rand to avoid specifically that (i.e. give them a role or long term job, etc.) then perhaps this whole future can be avoided. The Seanchan, of course, are another issue altogether. An alliance with Seanchan and Mat's wife is the one thing it doesn't seem that Rand has even thought much about yet. He'll have to or else it seems the Seanchan may come to dominate Randland.

Follow Friday: Non-Bookish Collectors Items
The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee's View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it'll allow us to show off more new blogs!
How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, (using the linky tools -- keep scrolling!) then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them "hi" in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!
Do you have any fun collections (other than books)? - Suggested by Peace Love Books
I think I have three that qualify, though two haven't been true for a while.
1) Back when I used to travel more, I was the kind of person that collected shot glasses, which is funny because I don't drink. At all. I just kind of thought they were cute. (Hehe.) As you can see, I have quite a few, but I haven't done much traveling the last few years, so I haven't collected them in a while.
2) Growing up, one thing my mom always gave us girls for Christmas was a porcelain doll. I got one every year for most of my childhood, so I have TONS of them. I've started re-gifting them to my niece, and I haven't received one in many years, now, but I definitely have a collection of them.
3) My family has always been big on going to the movies, so a few years ago, I started collecting movie stubs. They aren't worth anything, and many have faded so much that you can no longer read the ink to see which film they're from, but I have several large backs of them (like hundreds of movie stubs) and I'm kind of proud because it's not something most people would think of collecting. I'm just a nerd that way. :D
So, what do you collect besides books?
Thoughts for Thursday: Resolutions
Thoughts for Thursday is a new feature hosted by Musings on Fantasia and LKHill. In this meme, we share thoughts or quotes that we know or have recently come across. Each week there is a specific subject or theme. These can be quotes from books, quotes by famous people, (quotes by YOU, perhaps ;D). Anything from anywhere is game, though we do ask that you keep your quote to a few sentences at most. Don't quote, for example, entire passages of a book or essay. These can be funny quips, cool sayings, hair-raising antidotes, movie lines, any kind of quote you can think of!
Just have fun, collect awesome sayings by awesome people, and try to be inspired!
This week's theme is New Year's Resolutions. Check out my other blog for more quotes.

Book Review: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

We actually finished this book back on 12/26, but over the holidays I had pretty much NO time to post. So, here's my post about book 3. :D
Gotta love book 3! Azkaban introduces Sirius Black, dementors, werewolves, animagus, hippogriffs, Patronuses, and a lot of heavy history for Harry.
Though there are elements of the film version of this book that I really loved (Gary Oldman as Sirius for one) there were also a lot of things I was disappointed in. This was the only film that I really felt like screwed up the history a lot. They didn't go into enough detail about Black being the Potter's Secret Keeper, exactly how Pettigrew betrayed them, losing his finger, etc. I remember watching it with my older sister, who hadn't read the book, and I had to explain all this extra stuff to her. She asked why it hadn't been put in the film, but I had no answer. They just kind of messed that part of it up.
That said, I thought they did an excellent job with the dementors, the whole patronus situation, and most of the rest of it. Let's just say that the elements that were there were done very well, but there was a lot missing, from my view of things.
One other thing missing from the film that I wish they had done more with was Sir Cadogen. I know he was a very minor part of the narrative, and I think he did show up in the film, but just as a part of the scenery, but I totally loved him in the book! Wished they had focused more on him.
Then there was the relationship between Sirius the dog and Crookshanks. I thought this whole thing was hilarious. I loved that the cat knew how to stop the Whomping Willow from kicking everyone's butt. I wish we'd seen more of this in the film as well.
Well, those were probably my favorite bits--the ones that stuck out to me, anyway--along with the time travel element, which I thought was well done.
What was your favorite part of The Prisoner of Azkaban?

2015 Here I Come!

If I had one complaint about this past year, it would concern my writing. Last year at this time, I made a bunch of lofty goals and was super-excited to get started on them. But then life hit me and I ended up working a job for most of the year that made it really hard to make much progress on my writing. It was all I could do to keep up with my reading and blogging. I got very little done on the writing front.
Luckily, I'm in a better position to do more with my writing this year *fingers crossed* and I hope to accomplish more.
Last year I wanted to:

1. Galad names a punishment for Perrin. What did you think of it? Also Perrin becomes, in essence, Galad's commander (and therefore commander of the Children of the Light!) for the Last Battle. Thoughts? Predictions?
I was a fan of Galad's "punishment" because he finally seemed to realize that giving Perrin a strict punishment would be ridiculous. Thought Galad's always been a bit frustrating, we can see real hope for him as his clarity of the situation improves.
I totally love that Perrin essentially has command of the Whitecloaks for the Last Battle. There's not a better person for the job. This kind of ensures that what battle skills the Whitecloaks have will be put to good use, and they won't run amok causing more problems during the Last Battle. Good job, Perrin! :D
