Thoughts for Thursday--Spring

Thoughts for Thursday is a new meme hosted by Musings on Fantasia and LKHill.  In this meme, we share thoughts or quotes that we know or have recently come across. Each week there is a specific subject or theme. These can be quotes from books, quotes by famous people, (quotes by YOU, perhaps ;D). Anything from anywhere is game, though we do ask that you keep your quote to a few sentences at most. Don't quote, for example, entire passages of a book or essay. These can be funny quips, cool sayings, hair-raising antidotes, movie lines, any kind of quote you can think of!

Just have fun, collect awesome sayings by awesome people, and try to be inspired!

This week's theme is spring.

In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.--Margaret Atwood, Bluebeard's Egg

"Is the spring coming?" he said. "What is it like?"...                                            "It is the sun shining on the rain and the rain falling on the sunshine..."--Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Secret Garden

Spring shows what God can do with a drab and dirty world.--Virgil Kraft

Can words describe the fragrance of every breath of spring?--Neltje Blanchan

The deep roots never doubt spring will come.--Marty Rubin

April hath put a spirit of youth in everything.--William Shakespeare, Sonnet 98

Which is your favorite quote about spring? Do you have one to contribute?

Review Day! Silver Linings Play Book Film Review + Abundance Book Review

Source
So I've heard a lot of buzz--who hasn't?--abouit Silver Linings Playbook, but I never did run out to see it. Not that I would have minded. It just wasn't at the top of my list. Then my sister, who I live with, got a bug about it, which surprised me. Playlist might have gotten a lot of buzz and been a festival darling, but my sister isn't one to like indies. Especially ones with eccentric characters. Yet, because of the buzz she wanted to see it. Which was fine with me. She brought it home from the Redbox over the weekend and we watched it together.

And I'm happy to say it was fabulous! I laughed a lot! Jennifer Lawrence does her usual awesomesauce job with the character she's given. But the real treat is Bradley Cooper. I'm not always his biggest fan, but this case, he's fantastic!

Teaser Tuesday--Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
Today's teasers come from Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi.

"Aria pushed herself to her knees, gritting her teeth at the piercing shriek that erupted in her ears. She couldn't see. she swiped at her eyes to clear the murkiness, her legs quaking as she rose to her feet. Framed against the roaring blaze, she saw a stranger step into the clearing. He was shirtless, but there was no mistaking him for Bane or Echo.
He was a real Savage."

Write for the Heights + Game of Thrones, Episode 3.6 + Mermaid Reminder

Not the kind of big opening I mean, but thought
 I'd share it anyway. You're welcome. :D
So this past Saturday I had my first public speaking engagement. I presented at the Write for the Heights Literary Workshop. The top was how to create the Big Opening of your book.

It went really well. Not a huge crowd, but that was probably a good thing for me. I totally felt like I was sweating like a pig--I sweat when I'm nervous--but I don't think I had any massive blunders. Anyway, I thought I'd do a recap today of what I spoke about.

Do's When Creating Your Big Opening:

The Dragon Reborn Read-Along, Week 3

Source
1. We see Verin hoarding a collection of Corianin Sedai's writings on Dreaming. Do you think that she should share them (or selected portions) with Egwene or do you think that blundering around in the dark is the best way to learn how to do something?

I really don't see the point of not giving Egwene any and all information there is on the World of Dreams. Even if they were just Corianin's theories and not absolute fact, it might still be helpful or help Egwene expand anything she's thinking about and learn more. Especially with the apparent danger Dreaming poses, and the fact that this is a teacher-pupil relationship, I can't help but think perhaps Verin's motives for keeping certain things hidden.

2. In her testing for becoming Accepted, we see Egwene as Amyrlin. Can you accept this as a possible future for her or is it too improbable?

Write for the Heights Literary Fair

Just a quick note for your Saturday morning! I'm presenting at a literary fair today! I'll be putting on a workshop at 10:30 am. I really should have started telling people about this a week ago, but what can I say? I'm terrible about telling people about my own events in advance.

So, if anyone's in the South Salt Lake area today, drop by! It's a free event at the Whitmore Library. My topic is, "The Big Opening." As in, the first scene of your story as well as keeping the reader turning pages until the end.

Wish me luck! And happy Saturday! :D

Follow Friday--Current Read Sneak Peeks

Gain new followers and make new friends with the Book Blogger Feature & Follow! If this is your first time here, welcome! You are about to make some new friends and gain new followers -- but you have to know -- the point of this hop is to follow other bloggers also. I follow you, you follow me.

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee's View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it'll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, (using the linky tools -- keep scrolling!) then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them "hi" in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

Give us a sneak! What are you reading? Tell us about a fun or fail scene in your current read.
