Follow Friday--Guilty Pleasures

Alison Can Read Feature & Follow
Gain new followers and make new friends with the Book Blogger Feature & Follow! If this is your first time here, welcome! You are about to make some new friends and gain new followers -- but you have to know -- the point of this hop is to follow other bloggers also. I follow you, you follow me.

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee's View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it'll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, (using the linky tools -- keep scrolling!) then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them "hi" in their comments (on the po.st that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

What is your guilty pleasure as far as reading? Is it a genre, or is it a certain type of book?

It may sound strange, especially as I am now constantly reading and even writing high fantasy, but I always thought of that as guilty pleasure reading. When I was in high school, the only books I read in my spare time were Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time, Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth, The Lord of the Rings, and a few others like them. I always had other, more literary or classical books to read for English class, and the high fantasy were the books I read under the covers at night, or just when I needed a break from the homework. ;D

How about you? What form does your guilty pleasure reading take?

  1. Nice! That's pretty much what paranormal reads were for me when needing a break from my English class reads. Even as an English major, I wasn't always wowed with the classics. If I didn't have at least 1 paranormal read a week, I would've gone insane!

  5. For some reason a lot of people sort of look down on genre fiction. I don't know what their problem is! High fantasy is great, and just and rewarding and enriching as "literary fiction" in my opinion. :)

  6. I've read Lord of the Rings and I must admit, I did like being whisked away into Tolkien's world. (I love elves) My best friend has been bugging me to read the Sword of Truth series forever! I don't read a whole lot of high fantasy, but as a teacher, I definitely need YA or NA to escape to after a day of dealing with students!

  7. I have to credit my dad and my 5th grade teacher with my love of high fantasy. My dad loved sci-fi and fantasy so the books were always in the house. My 5th grade teacher read us The Hobbit in class and started my love of Tolkien. I didn't find Robert Jordan until after college, but once I did I devoured the Wheel of Time series! Thanks for stopping by this week! Happy Friday :D

  9. I haven't read any high fantasy fiction in a long time. My older brother really liked them -- particularly the LORT series. But I would like to read more high fantasy YA or NA books, that sounds interesting.

  12. I love high fantasy as well. They tend to be my favorite books when they are well-written. I will admit that sometimes they can be very confusing and hard to follow if not. You chose some great ones as examples though :D Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven

  18. I read all across genres, and I try to never feel guilty about my reads- sometimes, I spend a little too much time in my fantasy worlds, though.

  25. I love me some great fantasy books! High fantasy books are amazing because you can just get so stuck in the book and (usually) the worlds are so wonderfully created.
